Dr. Nimesh Poudyal

Nimesh Poudyal is a Senior Research Scientist and Leads the Department of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) at the International Vaccine Institute (IVI). With over 15 years of experience, he has dedicated his career to addressing critical public health challenges in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), specializing in clinical microbiology, AMR research, global health, and vaccinology. His expertise spans strengthening health systems, generating, and utilizing high-quality data, and building capacity across diverse settings.

Nimesh has extensive experience working in resource-constrained environments, where he has led initiatives to improve health outcomes and strengthen laboratory and surveillance systems. Notably, he played a key role in the implementation of a single-dose HPV clinical trial in Thailand, contributing to evidence generation for more accessible and cost-effective cervical cancer prevention strategies. Additionally, he served as a laboratory expert for the Surveillance for Enteric Fever in Africa (SETA) program, where he supported the establishment of typhoid surveillance systems as laboratory expert across six countries in Africa. This work has been instrumental in understanding the burden of typhoid fever and informing vaccination strategies in endemic regions.

Currently, Nimesh leads multiple Fleming Fund regional grants, including CAPTURA and TACE. These initiatives focus on strengthening data generation and promoting the use of evidence to understand the burden of AMR in Asia. His contributions extend to generating real-world evidence on the impact of vaccines in combating AMR and advocating for their use in LMICs. Through his work, Nimesh continues to advance global health by bridging research, policy, and practice to address pressing public health challenges
