Hands-on Training on National Antimicrobial Prescribing Survey (NAPS) in Bangladesh
A hands-on training on the National Antimicrobial Prescribing Survey (NAPS) tool was successfully conducted on October 30, 2025, at the IEDCR Conference Room in Dhaka, Bangladesh, under the CAPTURA Project. The training aimed to strengthen the capacity of healthcare professionals to utilize the NAPS platform for monitoring and improving antimicrobial prescribing practices across healthcare facilities in Bangladesh.

The session provided participants with comprehensive guidance on user registration, facility setup, and data entry processes, including detailed instructions for accurately recording patient details, clinical indications, and antimicrobial prescriptions. Trainers also demonstrated how to assess prescription appropriateness and compliance with national and international treatment guidelines.
Participants explored the NAPS dashboard and its analytical features, gaining hands-on experience in generating and interpreting reports. Insights from the first audit using NAPS were shared, showcasing how data-driven analysis can support antimicrobial stewardship and enhance prescribing practices.

Interactive discussions allowed participants to exchange experiences and identify areas for contextual adaptation and sustainability. Key recommendations included ensuring long-term accessibility of the NAPS platform, developing a national scale-up strategy, and strengthening data governance through collaboration between the Government of Bangladesh, IEDCR, and the National Centre for Antimicrobial Stewardship (NCAS).
Participants also emphasized the importance of capacity building, data validation, and system customization to better align with local needs. Suggestions included integrating national treatment guidelines, enhancing user interface flexibility, and promoting accurate prescription documentation at hospital level.
The training concluded with a strong commitment from stakeholders to advance the adoption of NAPS as a national tool for antimicrobial prescribing surveillance. The feedback and recommendations from this session will inform future system improvements and support the integration of NAPS into Bangladesh’s national AMR surveillance framework.
