CAPTURA/TACE Joint Regional Dissemination Workshop Successfully Concluded in Bangkok

The CAPTURA/TACE Joint Regional Dissemination Workshop, held on January 20–21, 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, was successfully completed, marking a significant milestone in advancing regional efforts to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Organized under the Fleming Fund–supported CAPTURA and TACE initiatives and led by the International Vaccine Institute (IVI), the two-day workshop brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including country representatives, AMR experts, policymakers, development partners, and donor agencies from across Asia.

A Platform for Reflection and Regional Collaboration

The workshop served as a vital platform to reflect on the transformative achievements of CAPTURA and TACE across partner countries—Bangladesh, Bhutan, Lao PDR, and Nepal. Participants engaged in dynamic discussions on strengthening AMR and antimicrobial use (AMU/C) surveillance systems, enhancing clinical engagement, and improving communication strategies.

Through technical presentations, country-led sessions, and panel discussions, participants shared best practices, innovative approaches, and lessons learned, fostering strong peer-to-peer learning and South-South collaboration.

Showcasing Technical Achievements and Innovations

Key highlights included:

  • Presentation of National Action Plan (NAP) implementation progress and evidence-based recommendations
  • Insights into antimicrobial consumption (AMC) surveillance systems, particularly from Lao PDR
  • Country experiences in clinical engagement strategies to promote antimicrobial stewardship
  • Discussions on Community of Practice (CoP) models and effective AMR communication frameworks
  • Findings from Burden of Disease (BOD) feasibility studies, supporting policy advocacy efforts
  • Implementations of the AMR Surveillance Monitoring and Evaluation (AMRSurME) Framework
  • Digital Platform Implementation including QAAPT and WHONET across the countries

These sessions demonstrated the tangible impact of CAPTURA and TACE in strengthening AMR response capacities across the region.

Driving Sustainability and Future Action

A central focus of the workshop was ensuring the sustainability of achievements beyond the project lifecycle. Stakeholders collaboratively developed:

  • Country-specific sustainability roadmaps
  • Resource mobilization strategies
  • Regional collaboration frameworks for continued knowledge exchange and technical cooperation

Roundtable discussions emphasized the importance of country ownership, integration into national health systems, and sustained investment in AMR containment efforts.

Strengthening Regional Networks

The event reinforced partnerships among national AMR focal points, technical experts, and international organizations. It also laid the groundwork for continued regional collaboration, including South-South cooperation and joint advocacy initiatives.

Looking Ahead

As CAPTURA and TACE approach completion, the outcomes of this dissemination workshop provide a strong foundation for future initiatives. The shared commitment of all stakeholders ensures that the progress achieved will translate into long-term, sustainable AMR control efforts, contributing to improved public health security across South and Southeast Asia.
